THE PERFECT FIRST CAMP EXPERIENCE FOR YOUNGER CAMPERS
There's something special about the very first days of summer. The excitement, the sunshine, the feeling that anything is possible. Summer's First Burst is designed to capture that energy and turn it into a fun, confidence-building first camp experience for campers who are ready to start their Gretna Glen journey.
This program introduces campers to everything that makes overnight camp unforgettable while helping them feel comfortable, welcomed, and excited to come back. From cabin life and group games to swimming, archery, and campfire nights, every day is packed with the kind of fun that only happens at camp.
EVERY DAY IS FILLED WITH CAMP MAGIC
Classic camp fun, meaningful moments, and plenty of time outdoors.
CLASSIC CAMP ACTIVITIES
Outdoor adventures, creative projects, group games, and camp traditions. From boating on the lake to archery in the field, every moment is designed to keep campers engaged and smiling.
FRIENDSHIPS THAT FORM FAST
Because this program brings together campers at a similar stage, friendships form quickly. Cabin groups, shared activities, and supportive counselors help everyone feel included and connected from day one.
CONFIDENCE BUILDING
Trying new activities, sleeping away from home, and navigating camp life help campers grow in independence and self-confidence, all in a safe, encouraging environment where it's okay to try and fail.
FAITH AND REFLECTION
Through simple worship experiences, campfire moments, and daily reflections, campers are invited to explore faith in a way that is welcoming and meaningful for their age.
A GENTLE INTRODUCTION TO OVERNIGHT CAMP
Summer's First Burst is intentionally designed to be approachable and manageable for younger campers and families. Trained staff create a nurturing environment where campers feel safe, supported, and cared for every step of the way.
Whether it's their very first overnight away from home or their first time at Gretna Glen, this program helps campers start summer feeling brave, excited, and ready for more.
WHERE YOU'LL STAY
Traditional cabins with bunk-style beds, a counselor in every cabin, and the sound of friends laughing down the hall.
WHAT PARENTS SHOULD KNOW
Campers stay in traditional cabins with bunk-style beds and a counselor in every cabin. Gretna Glen is ACA-accredited, meeting over 300 health, safety, and quality standards. Staff are trained specifically for the age group they serve.
This is a full Sunday-through-Friday session, but the environment is designed to ease campers into the experience. Homesickness is normal and our staff know how to handle it with care. Most campers settle in within the first day.
No prior camp experience is needed. Just a willingness to try something new.
